EU AI Act Article 50 transparency obligations begin to apply

The Article 50 transparency obligations of the AI Act (machine-readable marking of AI-generated content, deepfake disclosure and others) begin to apply. The date was not changed by Omnibus Regulation (EU) 2026/1744; only generative AI systems placed on the market before Aug 2, 2026 get until Dec 2, 2026 to meet the Article 50(2) marking obligation

Why it matters

Provenance labeling such as C2PA and SynthID moves from goodwill to a regulatory compliance requirement. Dec 2, 2026 is only a transition deadline for systems already on the market, not a postponement of Article 50 as a whole
