The vocabulary shifted from unveilings to sales and data
This reads several Korean news reports on robots and physical-world automation together as a single indicator. What they have in common is not the unveiling of new prototypes but that words such as sales, parts production, data collection, field demonstration, operating systems and industry standards have started to appear, and the interpretation offered is that this signals entry into the industrialization stage. Three points carry over into practice: robots were put into a logistics packing process because of variation, since the products, the boxes and where they sit change every time; it states flatly that because factory floors are flat, wheeled designs are more stable than two legs and better for heavy loads; and the order is to set up the training-data system before the robots, replicating the actual factory in digital space to synthesize scenarios. The most valuable diagnosis is the port case: the hard part is not moving containers but recalculating when plans change because of ship delays and changed information, and that has been done by people. However, most of the figures are quoted from press reports or are government targets, so numbers such as a 30% productivity gain should be read as goals, not results.
Key points
- Priority No. 1 for robots: manual processes with high variation that need no special skill
- On flat floors, wheeled designs are more stable than bipeds and better for heavy loads
- Set up the training-data system and the factory replica before the robots
- The port bottleneck is not hauling but recalculating when plans change
This is a note: my own write-up after reading several sources. It has no source link; events checked against a source are kept as records.
