OpenAI unveils a bundle of announcements at DevDay 2026

DevDay 2026 announcements — unveiled the Ultrafast speed tier: token generation up to 8 times faster in Codex (300 tokens per second) and up to 6 times faster in the API, available the same day in the API and on Pro 500 and Enterprise in ChatGPT Work/Codex. Also announced Private Intelligence (Zero Data Retention with Private Safety Processing — automated safety review runs without OpenAI staff seeing the content; a Private Inference preview in fall 2026), the Decisions API (real-time decisions on user-defined questions from a finite set of predefined answers), the Agents API including Computer Use, Bedrock Managed Agents, Codex Security Cloud (automatic checks of GitHub repositories and preparation of fixes), a revamped Codex CLI, ChatGPT Space, Pages and Team Tasks, a Pro 500 tier (25 times the Plus limits), and "Sign in with ChatGPT" with more than 16 partners.

Why it matters

The key is that speed has been split off into a separately billed tier. When latency becomes the bottleneck of agent loops, tokens per second become a product separate from quality, and investment in inference infrastructure is recouped not through top scores but through latency guarantees by tier.
