Google DeepMind releases WeatherNext 3
WeatherNext 3 released — 5km resolution for surface variables, hourly forecasts (previously every 6 hours), and real-time geostationary satellite data instead of physics simulation. Company claims: precipitation forecasts improved by up to 60% against IMERG, 30% against MRMS and 10% against rain gauges. Cites Brightband's independent real-time evaluation as finding it the most accurate. Applied to Search, the Gemini app, Maps, the Maps Platform Weather API and Earth Engine, with data provided through BigQuery, Earth Engine and GCS
