Three settings that keep work running while you're away

This introductory rundown goes over a new agent feature from a major search company from the standpoint of office workers' daily tasks. The core is a breakdown framework that sets things up in three parts — the task (what to have it do), the schedule (when to do it) and the procedure document (how to do it) — and it repeatedly stresses that because the work runs in the provider's cloud rather than on a personal computer, it does not stop even when the device is turned off. For instructions, the tip given is to put three elements into a single sentence: what to look for, by what criteria to sort it, and in what form to receive it; it also introduces an extension in which a procedure, once refined, is downloaded as a file and handed to colleagues so they work from the same manual. However, there is no point at which the accuracy of the output is checked, and failure alerts, rollback, and any review of processing internal company data in an external cloud are missing too.

Key points

  • Designs automation as a 3-way split into task, schedule and procedure document
  • Runs in the provider's cloud, not on a personal device
  • Tip: put the target, the sorting criteria and the output format into the instruction together
  • No check of output accuracy and no failure-handling procedure

This is a note: my own write-up after reading several sources. It has no source link; events checked against a source are kept as records.
