Anthropic announces Enterprise Frontier Safeguards (EFS)

Announced Enterprise Frontier Safeguards (EFS) — an approach that performs automated misuse detection (cyberattacks, credential theft, development of harmful capabilities) without Anthropic staff viewing the data, in a zero data retention configuration where logs are kept in cloud accounts owned by the customer (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and the customer manages the encryption keys and access policies. Developed with more than 100 enterprise customers and rolled out in stages from fall 2026. Aimed at the data retention requirements of regulated industries such as finance, healthcare, law and government

Why it matters

A design answer to the point where demands for data sovereignty clashed with misuse monitoring. If a structure that makes safety monitoring work outside the vendor's servers becomes standard, the barrier to adopting frontier models in regulated industries is redefined as a problem of deployment architecture
