- Sep 24, 2026NVIDIA, Google DeepMind, EMBL-EBI and others — Released predicted 3D structures of protein complexes from more than 2,800 virus species through the AlphaFold Database — generated by accelerating AlphaFold2 with the NVIDIA BioNeMo inference runtime; says about 30% of the protein interactions are being reported to science for the first time. The BioNeMo structure prediction pipeline was open-sourced along with it. Participants include CEPI, Seoul National University, Sungkyunkwan University, the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics and the University of Glasgow SourceA case of building a public good to prepare for the next outbreak by loading AI-generated predicted structures wholesale into a public database. The starting point of pandemic response shifts from "solving structures through experiments" to "searching structures that have already been predicted". These are predicted structures; experimental confirmation is a separate matter
- Sep 23, 2026Airbnb, OpenAI — Airbnb announced it is expanding GPT-6 Astra access across its engineering and product organizations — using it through both the OpenAI API and Amazon Bedrock. Beyond coding, it is used to pin down complex bugs, design system architecture and brainstorm development strategy, and it is also applied to search, fraud prevention, customer support and insurance claims processing. Airbnb CTO Ahmad Al-Dahle said development teams are shipping about 80% more features than a year ago, and gave the example of strategy-document work that took more than 20 attempts with another model being done in 3–4 SourceIt shows the point where frontier-model adoption cases move from "code generation" to non-coding knowledge work such as architecture design and strategy documents. However, the 80% increase and the drop from 20 attempts to 3–4 are statements by a customer's executive with no disclosed measurement method, so they are recorded as claims
- Sep 23, 2026Anthropic — Anthropic announced that Claude agents had found ART (array-associated reverse transcriptases), a previously undescribed enzyme system, in bacteriophages — a structure made up of a reverse transcriptase, a partner gene and repetitive DNA sequences resembling CRISPR arrays. About 950 agents used 210 million tokens over 21 hours to scan more than 200,000 reverse transcriptases in DNA sequence databases, narrowing them down to 3,500 and then to 20 candidates; Anthropic's own life-sciences research team in the Bay Area then characterized them experimentally. A technical preprint was released at the same time SourceA case of AI moving from summarizing the literature to "deciding for itself what to look at and noticing anomalous patterns first". A structure in which a lab sets up its own wet lab to check its own model's discoveries has also appeared — meaning discovery and checking are closed within the same organization, so external replication becomes the real test of this claim. It is a preprint that has not yet been peer-reviewed
- Sep 22, 2026NVIDIA — Isaac ROS 5.0 released (ROSCon, Toronto) — it brings agent workflows into the ROS ecosystem, framed around people and AI agents building robots together. It includes support for ROS Lyrical and Ubuntu 24.04; a vendor-neutral memory transport interface contributed to ROS Lyrical; reusable skills (agent-ready skills) for installation, manipulation and perception that developers and agents can call in exactly the same way; FoundationStereo fine-tuning, in which an agent fine-tunes a stereo perception model for a specific camera and environment; the FoundationPose inference library, with 5.5x faster pose estimation and tracking; and a pick-and-place skill that bundles detection, depth estimation and pose output. Collision-free path computation in a warehouse environment takes 2–5 ms. It supports Jetson Orin Nano to Thor and is open source on GitHub SourceThe first mainstream release to name agents explicitly as "users" of robot software. The design that lets people and agents call skills through the same interface is the MCP and Skills standardization trend crossing into the physical domain, and handing per-camera fine-tuning of perception models to agents points toward vision-inspection setups on factory floors needing less human handling
- Sep 22, 2026Anthropic, CEPI, WHO AFRO, INRB — Anthropic published a case of Claude being used in the response to Bundibugyo Ebola (BDBV) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo — as of Sep 19, 2026, there were 7,672 confirmed cases and 3,699 deaths (a case fatality rate of 48.2%), and the outbreak had spread to 63 of the 167 health zones across 7 provinces. Automatically extracting case and test data scattered across slides cut the time needed to write situation reports from a day to under 1 hour; running multiple forecasting models simultaneously guided the placement of treatment centers and logistics; and Claude was also used to compare vaccine candidates and, through Claude Science, to assemble viral genomes and draw transmission phylogenies SourceAn effect that arose in the field, where the bottleneck was not model performance but "not being able to write reports in time". The real value came less from reasoning ability than from the ability to read documents in inconsistent formats and turn them into tables, and uses like this do not show up in benchmarks. The figures are the response agencies' tallies, and the time savings are Anthropic's account
